say for example you have a kick track, snares, hi hats, you can group them together and name it drums and then on the group you can place an effect, for example a drum bus compressor. but what i do is in session view i have tracks called for example "Piano Verse", "HiHats Verse", "808s", etc and then i click the midi pattern and hold tab and drag it to where i want it in arrangement view. for me the arrangement view and session view were confusing and i still don't exactly know how they work.
